This April, three planets turn retrograde, bringing the count to five. But will we welcome this chance to slow down? Maybe!
Let’s bring it down a notch now, shall we? March was a whirlwind thanks to two scene-stealing eclipses that swept through with major life changes for every zodiac sign. Eclipses occur four to six times a year, pushing us out of indecisiveness and procrastination. Marriages, breakups, relocations, job changes—major moves are often propelled by these cosmic events.
In April, the action slows down, and we might actually be thankful for that. The second half of the month will see three planets turning retrograde (backward)—Mars, Pluto and Mercury—joining an already reversed Saturn and Jupiter. While retrogrades get a bad rap (admittedly deserved in some cases!), we also like to think of them as “review periods.” Retrogrades give us a chance to press pause on all the new ventures and finish what we’ve started. They reconnect us to old people, projects and places we may have abandoned for shiny new opportunities.
Mars is the first to turn retrograde, which happens every two years. The red planet reverses from April 17-June 29, first through Sagittarius (until May 27), then backing into Scorpio for the remainder. The Sag cycle could slow down travel, entrepreneurial ventures and risk-taking, so don’t throw caution to the wind. Jealousy, possessiveness and shady characters could be exposed when Mars dips back into Scorpio.
From April 18-September 26, Pluto does its annual retrograde through Capricorn, ruler of authority, structure and ambition. We need to step back from world domination plans to infuse our goals with more soul, or to deal with imbalanced power dynamics.
Communication planet Mercury is the last to make a retrograde U-turn, backstepping through Taurus from April 28-May 22. Revamp your routines, balance your budget, and handle any practical business you’ve been avoiding. In advance of Mercury retrograde, be sure to back up your data and confirm any travel plans or meetings, as this cycle can wreak havoc on technology and scheduling.
Luckily, the Sun is in dynamic and independent fire-sign Aries until April 20, which sparks our desire for fresh starts. Along with the April 7 Aries new moon, this will keep us from getting TOO mired in the rearview. However, some of these nascent plans may take longer to fully launch due to the retrograde cascade.
On April 20, the Sun shifts into steady earth-sign Taurus for a month, grounding us amidst the retrograde mayhem. A potent Scorpio full moon on April 22 could bring some vava-voom action to our boudoirs, or it could spark a powerful business alliance. This spiritually-charged day is also great for creative visualizing and manifesting. Ask, believe, receive!
