The full-court press of Capricorn season. Two retrograde planets (Mercury and Jupiter). A dramatic Leo full moon and Mars in sexy Scorpio. Not too many dull moments as 2016 begins.
Welcome to January—and to 2016! If you haven’t read your 2016 Horoscope yet, we recommend you do, because change is definitely in the air. The new vibes are already afoot in January, and we’re ready to kick those goals into gear thanks to the Sun in ambitious Capricorn, and a January 9 Capricorn new moon.
A little rocket fuel for your resolutions? On January 3, energizer Mars moves into Scorpio until March 5—its first of two long visits to Scorpio this year. In fact, Mars will spend much of 2016 toggling between Scorpio and Sagittarius, enticing us to go deep AND big.
Friendship rifts and work-related SNAFUs could be especially prominent while Mercury is retrograde.
January also brings us two planetary retrogrades: Mercury and Jupiter will reverse course early this month, which could demand so quick adjustments. Communicator Mercury backspins through Aquarius from January 5-8, then dips into Capricorn, where it will remain retrograde until January 25. Friendship rifts and work-related SNAFUs could be especially prominent. Time to back up the company server? (Read our Mercury retrograde survival tips here.)
Jupiter’s retrograde is an annual event and it lasts for four months. From January 7-May 9, the planet of expansion and abundance is backward in analytical Virgo. (Read more about Jupiter in Virgo here.) This transit comes with an overthinker alert: We could all get WAY too heady and nitpicky now. But it’s also an amazing chance to step back and assess a mess with a critical eye, correcting the flaws before relaunching in the spring.

The Sun enters friendly Aquarius on January 20, lightening spirits. And a January 23 Leo full moon brings back the sidelined celebratory vibes. We’ve repented enough for our holiday excess, dammit. It’s time to let our hair down and have fun again. But maybe not TOO much fun, since social Venus moves into status-conscious Capricorn that day. What happens behind the velvet ropes…stays behind the velvet ropes. No need to overwhelm coworkers with your Snapchat stories and raunchy recaps, m’kay?
