Leo Man in Love | Manstrology

You know those staged pictures of adoring couples gazing tenderly into each other’s eyes, holding each other with enviable affection? It’s usually the manufacturer’s photo that comes tucked into a picture frame—the one you remove and replace with your real picture. Well, the Leo man wants that “Kodak moment” kind of love. He wants conventional romance with all the trimmings.

When he’s in love, Leo wants to celebrate your relationship. He’s more likely to remember your anniversary than you are—and to shower you with all the Hallmark trappings. We’re talking a dozen red roses right out of the florist’s freezer, with stiff chunks of baby’s breath tucked between the blossoms. Maybe a teddy bear clutching a balloon, a 14-karat gold necklace, or his favorite book of poetry. Some expensive jeans you’ve been coveting, or some sexy lingerie. Cheesy and sentimental is the Leo way—but somehow, it goes along with his overzealous personality.

Like two lions forming a pride, the Leo man easily forms a unit with his woman. He loves if they command the spotlight together; in fact, he’ll gladly court the paparazzi with you on his arm. Who could forget the legendary Leo-Leo coupling of J.Lo and Ben Affleck, otherwise known as “Bennifer”? During his presidential campaign, Leo Bill Clinton had Hillary so involved, the press started calling them “Billary.” A headline is a headline, and he’s glad to share ink with his devoted other half.

Of course, if that other half should outshine him or make him look foolish (remember the Bennifer box-office bomb Jersey Girl that began their downfall?), it’s curtains on this royal production. A Leo man has to get burned pretty badly not to touch the hot stove again. After his fling with bling, Ben Affleck went back to his Leo roots: cheering on the Red Sox and his favorite political candidates, bumming around with Jennifer Garner in sweats, family bonding, and hanging with his loyal cronies.

Ultimately, the Leo man just wants an easygoing, fun relationship with a best friend. Like a lion lazing in the sun, he also wants his relationship to be a safe, comfortable space where he can kick back and let his hair down. He puts so much energy out in the world, he just needs a restorative sanctuary to recharge his batteries. The resting lion needs to be at peace, not nagged about how long he’s been playing video games, how loud his music is, or when he’s going to pay back his student loans.

Pride is a perfect term for the lion’s family, because the Leo man takes plenty of pride in his. He wants to create a legacy, build an empire, to guide and teach his children and pass on wisdom to the next generation. If you’ve ever watched a male lion perched on a rock surveying his kingdom, that’s Leo. He longs to sit at the top of the mountain with you, looking at the homes, cars, children and years you’ve logged, to pull you close and whisper with awe, “Look what we’ve built together.”

He wants to inspire awe and admiration from others, too. The Leo man needs to be looked up to as a role model. His standards can be way too high, but try to tell him that—it will fall on deaf ears. Nothing is impossible in Leo’s imagination. Even if he’s got a new woman every week, it doesn’t stop him from issuing a press release and parading you around town, introducing you as his girlfriend. He’s a serial monogamist to the nth degree.

There are so many adventures waiting, and life with Leo will be full of them. Whether you travel the four corners of the earth, or simply create a fascinating life in your domestic bubble for two, he’s always bringing something new. “We started eating raw foods together, and we buy organic groceries,” says Carol of her Leo boyfriend. “We spend a lot of time cooking, and it’s so much fun. He loves to do everything together.”

Exploring the wider world is so much more satisfying to Leo with a fun, nurturing playmate by his side. Give him a wide-open playground for his hobbies, his ever-changing passions and interests, his romantic idealism. Cheer him on and let him champion you. Let your togetherness blossom into a romantic legacy, a love story that resounds through the ages, the kind your children will tell their children.
