On May 15, 2018, at 7:47AM EST, the new moon in earth sign Taurus marks the perfect time for planting seeds—literally! You can tend to your metaphorical garden and harness the potency of these Taurean moonbeams with an alchemical new moon ritual.
Connecting to nature keeps us in tune with the force that created us; that is us, for we are made of the same matter as the trees and flowers and yes, stardust. With decadent Venus as this sign’s guardian, we can celebrate beauty in its most natural forms. (Get the full lunar download on how to make the most of the Taurus new moon in our post here.)
Ritual: Wish Garden
For this new moon, we will plant a Wish Garden. If you have outdoor space, you might pick a spot in your yard. You could also get a pot for a houseplant or a window container—make sure it’s significantly larger than the plant you choose, since you’ll want that baby to grow!
Then, select your plant, ensuring that it’s a varietal that will stay alive until the corresponding full moon in Taurus on October 24 (or longer). Cut or dried flowers won’t work, but a funky fern or a vibrant rose begonia that can live indoors or out might be a nice pick!
If you’re challenged in the green thumb department, pick a succulent or cactus which won’t need much tending to. There are even “air plants” which can just be placed on rocks. But given Taurus’ down-and-dirty nature, we recommend some actual soil for this project.
Before planting, sit down to write a wish list on a small piece of paper. What are five things you would like to manifest before the Taurus full moon in six months time? Stabilizing Taurus is the star sign that governs our financial foundations, our luxury purchases, how we relax (massages, our homes), how we nourish ourselves and even romance. These would be great areas to focus on for your list. Once your list is done, fold the paper up as small as you possibly can.
Sprinkle soil at the base of the pot…enough to cover it and create a small layer. Or, dig a hole if you’re doing outdoor planting. Place your wish list here. Layer more soil on top of the list—filling it 1/3 of the way. Our dad, Shimon, who is a retired landscaper (and also our first boss since we worked for him for many summers!), recommends watering this soil and putting organic fertilizer in to strengthen the plants roots. Place the plant inside, ensuring that the roots are well covered with soil. Water once again so the soil is fully moistened. If there is room (and we recommend leaving some), place crystals in the soil to charge the plant and make your Wish Garden sparkle. Tend to it regularly, as a symbolic way of bringing your wishes into form!
- Clean all the receipts and junk out of your wallet and fold your bills nicely: this new moon is all about giving your money R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
- Give yourself a clay mask or body scrub.
- Treat yourself to a 90-minute massage.
- Make a meal using all natural ingredients, especially root vegetables like carrots, beets and yams.
