Monthly Horoscope:

Leo (July 23-August 22)

FEBRUARY 2009

Makeups, breakups, shakeups—your relationships have been topsy-turvy since last month, going through all kinds of changes. Blame it on Jupiter, the planet of expansion, which entered Aquarius, your committed partnerships sector, on January 5th. This year, the stars demand that you evolve in your dealings with others—in a big way.

It didn’t help that Mercury was retrograde here from January 11-February 1, causing communication breakdowns with key people and significant others. Then, on the 26th, a solar eclipse in Aquarius brought more surprises to your interactions. If you didn’t occasionally feel like writing off the entire human race, you’d be a saint.

Now, the Sun is in Aquarius, still beaming down on this part of your chart until February 18th. Leo, It’s time to examine your relationships and honestly assess what you want. Even the closest ties get stagnant if we don’t nurture them. Have you been doing “business as usual” with someone important, even though in your heart, something was amiss? Are you longing for more passion but scared to ask?

This month, honesty could bring you even closer to the ones you love. If you’re single, long-distance love affairs could be part of the package, or a person from another culture or country could entice you. Keep an open mind, because this year, you may stretch far beyond your usual “type.” On February 23rd, the moon, Mars, Jupiter and Neptune all converge in your relationship sector, bringing love, compassion and new opportunities for harmony.

It’s not only your romantic relationships that are evolving for you. You’re redefining the role that others play in your life—in friendship, business, and community. Leo, you can be generous and magnanimous, but a part of you may still demand attention or a level of being the “star.” In 2009, learn the joys of playing both the supportive role and being the boss.

For now, it’s time to come out and roar! On February 9th, a peak moment arrives with the Leo lunar eclipse. This full moon is powered with rocket fuel, and could be a day of major triumphs or self-awareness. You’ll be able to see yourself in full-on Technicolor—and to step out of the shadows, too! Speak your truth, Leo.

This is part of a series of eclipses that started last year. In August 2008, a Leo new moon eclipse planted the seeds of a bold new chapter. Now, this full moon eclipse brings whatever you started then to fruition. Think back to the mood, energy and activities of that time. This eclipse will tie into whatever happened over the summer. Take a look at how far you’ve come, and where you want to go next.

While relationships could be a bright spot this month, don’t put all your money on Valentine’s Day. In fact, don’t bet it on it much at all. While Cupid aims, you’ll be caught in the midst of a tense Mars-Moon “square”—a tug of war between head and heart, duty and true feelings, work and family. In some way, there could be too many irons in the fire, or needs to navigate. You might just want to call the whole thing off. Compromise will be key if you insist on celebrating (and most romantic Leos will—you’re not afraid of a challenge!).

On February 18th, the Sun moves into Pisces, your eighth house of intimacy and joint ventures. Relationships could get even more serious—perhaps to the point of moving in together. On the other hand, relationships that aren’t “it” could see you parting ways or dividing up resources. The eighth house rules joint property and merging at the most intimate level.

Wealth is also part of the eighth house’s domain, especially as it pertains to property. If you’re thinking of investing, perhaps in real estate or a large purchase, this could be a good time. Take stock of your financial assets and see how you’re doing. If you have loans or debt, make a plan to pay them off. Start a savings account or add to a 401K. It’s never too soon for some future planning.

While the month will get decidedly more intense after the 18th, you could enjoy a steamy affair, or just get more in touch with your passions. Soul-searching is never a bad thing, so if you take a little private time to do that, you’ll only benefit. Spiritual or mystical studies can help you find more meaning and purpose.
