Monthly Horoscope:

Aries (March 21-April 10)

JANUARY 2009

It’s time to expand your network, Aries. On January 5th, lucky Jupiter begins a yearlong visit to your eleventh house of groups and friends. It’s time to turn the “power of one” into the power of many. Even you—the zodiac’s solo pioneer—need people.

There’s a part of you that loves to be the star, and you may initially feel a little threatened by being part of a group. (God forbid you should blend into the crowd!) But even if you don’t get all the credit or glory, there’s something much bigger available when you join forces with others. This year, explore the adventure of teamwork. Even if you don’t get the initial recognition, you could truly leave an important stamp on the world.

The eleventh house also rules society, so get involved in a humanitarian issue, or even politics. Somebody’s gotta rule the world, so why not you, Aries? It feels great to make a difference for a cause you care about. You might trade in a corporate gig to work at a non-profit, or rally your company to take on an activist project in the community. Don’t be shy if you’re inspired! Connecting people to resources is a great role for you to play in 2009.

A big burst of inspiration could come on January 26th, when a new moon eclipse falls in your eleventh house. Around that day, you could feel propelled to take action, speak out, or get involved in a cuase. Or, you might find yourself suddenly fired up for a big group project. Ready or not, someone may just appoint you leader—so go for it! Whatever you begin at this time could bear fruit when related eclipses fall on February 9th and August 5th.

Technology is also highlighted this year, so consider using digital media to spread a message. Websites, blogs, podcasts and video are all amazing channels to be seen and heard. You might even learn how to build a website from scratch, or team up with a tech-savvy group who can turn your vision into virtual reality.

It’s definitely the start of a fun an adventurous year, one that’s a lot more your speed than 2008 was. The only note of caution? You may need to curb a rebellious urge brought on by the Aquarian and eleventh house energy. There could be moments when you just want to say “screw it all” and stalk away. You’re the master of the old “I’m taking my ball and going home” bit, but you really don’t want to burn bridges now. A little anger management is in order, please!

You’ll definitely need to temper those emotional fireworks from January 11-February 1, when communication planet Mercury goes retrograde (backward) in Aquarius. Be sure to back up all your computer data, photographs, video, and any important electronic files. You might also research upgrades to your personal electronic equipment (iPod, stereo, TV)—but hold off on buying until Mercury goes direct in February.

Avoid being the rabble-rouser among friends during Mercury retrograde. A snide or biting comment could be taken the wrong way, leading to an unnecessary rift. It’s actually a great time to reconnect with old friends, since Mercury retrograde turns our attention to the past. Just avoid sensitive subjects like politics—unless, of course, it’s Inauguration Day.

Mid-month, your home and family come into focus. On January 11, a full moon illuminates your domestic sector. It’s a great time to redecorate or spruce up your place, even throw a winter dinner party. Full moons can bring endings, so you might even move or find a new home around this date. If you’ve had tension brewing with your mother or a key female, clear the air in the light of this full moon.

One important New Year’s resolution: take better care of your health. Strict Saturn has been in your well-being sector since September 2007, demanding that you learn better habits. Saturn will be retrograde through May 16th, so your resistance is sure to be down—along with your motivation. While it will take even more effort to stick to a routine, push yourself. You could have incredible breakthroughs if you prioritize your rest and honor your body’s needs—no matter how many four-alarm fires there seem to be. You’ll find yourself quickly run down if you respond to every drama and panicked call. The world won’t end if you don’t offer your shoulder to cry on. Put yourself first!
