Monthly Horoscope:

Leo (July 23-August 22)

JANUARY 2009

Love is in the air, Leo! If you’ve dreamed of a star-powered year for your romantic life, 2009 is it. On January 5th, lucky Jupiter enters your seventh house of committed relationships, staying for a year. This is typically a year when single people meet their soulmates, often getting married or engaged. Exciting business ventures are also in the cards. Happily coupled Leos could find your closest ties growing to a deeper level of partnerships than you imagined possible.

Jupiter is the planet of expansion and new horizons, as well as long-distance travel. You’ll have your best luck if you break out of your comfort zone and stretch beyond the familiar. Don’t be afraid to try online dating, or to go out with someone from a different background or culture. You could meet someone on vacation, or even have a long-distance relationship for a while. Risks will be rewarded, so remember: nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If you feel stuck around dating, we recommend an incredible workbook: Katherine Woodward Thomas’ Calling In The One: Seven Weeks To Attract the Love of Your Life. We recommend it often, since Ophira and many friends met their husbands and partners while reading it! Another great read is Frank Polancic’s Why Wait? Create Your Soulmate Now! Both authors give you great exercises to break through intimacy blocks and find true love.

In 2009, some Leos will realize that you’ve honestly outgrown the person you’re with. In some relationships, you fulfill the karmic purpose of your union, then begin to branch off in other directions. If your paths no longer head for the same true North, wish each other well and part ways. Before long, abundant Jupiter will bring you that special soulmate.

This year, there’s an even greater chance of you enjoying that deep, soulmate-level love, because a record three eclipses will light up your sector of relationships. The first happens on January 26. This is an important day to really set your intentions for love, since it’s the only new moon eclipse of the trio. New moons offer windows for new beginnings and fresh starts—whether with your current mate or someone new. The other two eclipses fall on February 9th and August 5th,  so mark your calendar! On January 23rd, the Sun and Jupiter will also team up here, making your vibrant personality magnetic to someone important. Talk about a five-star month for love!

The full moon on January 11th could also be a magic moment. This moon falls in your mystic twelfth house of karma, soulmates and endings. You could get swept away in a fantasy—just the kind your passionate, romance-aholic sign loves. Do watch your back around this full moon, though, as people are not always above-board under the twelfth house spell. If somebody’s gossiping or misleading you, you could find out.

Just make sure you check the facts before you fling any accusations, though. That same day, Mercury goes retrograde, foiling communication, technology and travel until February 1. You could get all fired up about a misinterpreted remark or message, so try not to take things personally. Knee-jerk reactions will only lead to regret and drama.

Mercury is retrograde in your relationship sector, which could bring back the past for healing, closure, or maybe even a second chance. If you’ve had an unresolved issue brewing with your sweetie, hash it out and settle this for once and for all. You can’t move forward on top of resentment or lingering hurts. You might even work with a couple’s counselor or a coach to help you both speak objectively.

An ex or old flame could also come back into the picture during Mercury retrograde. Make sure you’re not just repeating an old dynamic. Has this person really changed? Perhaps it was just a matter of timing the first go-round, and the second time will be charm. Just tread carefully before you dive in.

One New Year’s resolution you might want to make good on? Your vow to be more organized. Leo, you tend to be involved in a million projects, committees, and books, starting five new ones before you’ve finished the first. You don’t have to change your nature, but at least conquer that clutter. It’s actually intrinsically related to your money success and earning power—at least, according to the stars. So balance your budget AND your belongings. A clear, clean canvas will give you the space to create a new source of abundance.
