Monthly Horoscope:

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

JANUARY 2009

Ah, Virgo. If you can just push through October, we promise you’ll be stronger, wiser and more grounded than you’ve ever been. Yes, it’s only January, but we know how you like to plan. So we figured we’d prepare you for one last year of hard work on your path to reinvention!

As you may know, Saturn, the planet of challenges and maturity, has been in Virgo since September 2007. Many Virgos have completely changed their lifestyles during this cycle. Perhaps you struck out on your own with an ambitious solo project. Maybe the hand of fate rearranged everything unexpectedly. Whatever the case, Saturn is pushing you to blaze your own trail, assert yourself and break through everything that stops you from achieving your dreams. While it may feel like a slow, uphill climb, you’re buildling strength and endurance with each step. The saying “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” has never been more true.

Saturn is now retrograde (backward) and will be in this low-power mode until May 16. You may groan when you hear this, but it’s time to pause your efforts and really make sure you’re on track. There is absolutely no room for cutting corners, Virgo. During Saturn retrograde, you need to review, refine, do additional research, and make sure your plans are watertight.

You could also benefit from taking a good hard look at yourself, and especially your presentation. Like it or not, you’re the vehicle of any message you want to convey. Is your speech, dress, body language and attitude aligned with the way you want to be known in the world? Consider working with an image consultant, taking an acting class, or joining a public speaking group like Toastmasters to polish up your game.

Fortunately, on January 5th, lucky Jupiter enters your Virgo-ruled sixth house of health, fitness and organization. Jupiter will be here until next January, making it the year of the Super-Virgo for you! Book sessions with a trainer, join a gym with spa services, even head somewhere exotic for a beach yoga retreat (Jupiter rules travel). Eastern and holistic healing will bring great results. Honor the mind-body-soul connection, because they will be more intertwined than ever.

From January 11-February 1, your ruler Mercury is retrograde (backward) in your sixth house, so be sure to back up all your data, calendars and organizational systems. Mercury can cause technology crashes and miscommunications. Take lots of deep breaths, because plans can change as soon as you make them, and you won’t have much control. Be flexible, and try not to overbook your schedule. It’s a great time to catch up with old friends, and to make doctor or dentist appointments if you’re due for checkups.

It’s time to give yourself a better life, Virgo—but nobody said it was easy. You’re the sign of the helper, and you may avoid dealing with yourself by putting out fires for everyone else. The full moon on January 11th could be a much-needed breaking point. If you’ve been biting your tongue, especially in a group, your true feelings could come rushing out. Or, you might just want to make a quick exit. Virgo, take a time-out, but know that your rebellious urges will be exaggerated by this moon.

Your relationships are true grounds for learning about yourself now, too. This month, romantic Venus and unpredictable Uranus join forces in your partnership sector. You may want to shake things up with your mate just to stir up excitement. Go easy. A naughty costume or surprise date night? Good stuff. Picking fights or pushing your sweetie’s buttons? Not so nice. Don’t be passive-aggressive, Virgo. If you need some space and breathing room, just say so.
