Monthly Horoscope:

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

October 2008

Love is in the air, Gemini—but are you picking up static on the line? Your love life has been quite a whirlwind since late August, when several planets began touring Libra, and your fifth house or romance. Gemini, you could have met someone that made your heart leap, or experienced a surge of flirtatious energy in your life. The fifth house is fun and exciting, all about that rush of new love that you adore. Coupled with idealistic Libra, you've been walking on air about somebody, of just floating along on a dreamy little cloud.

That was all good until September 24, when Mercury went retrograde (backward), a challenging cycle that lasts until October 16. Talk about raining on your happy little parade! Mercury (which is your ruling planet) passes Earth in its orbit 3-4 times a year, creating the illusion of it rotating backward. Its retrogrades are known for thrpwing communication, technology and plansout of wack. A promising new love interest could have had second thoughts, or perhaps you decided to take a step back. Creative projects that were bubbling with momentum are also affected by this retrograde. Just when you were finally ready to throw yourself in full-throttle! What is this, some cosmic joke?

Believe it or not, it could be a gift in disguise. Gemini, you’re an impulsive person who falls in and out of love quickly--with people, projects, ideas. Follow-through isn't always your strong suit. We used to tease our good Gemini friend (you know who you are) because she’d meet a different guy online every week and instantly set his photo as her computer’s desktop background. Come Monday, she’d have bored of him and there would be a new guy splashed across her monitor. So, if you’ve been playing musical mates or putting too many irons in the fire, it’s time to shout “freeze!” and reevaluate your game.

On a positive note, Mercury retrograde brings back people from our past. An old flame or crush could have appeared out of the blue, or a dormant creative project could have gotten a second life. You might even have rekindled a romantic tie with a long-lost love. Geminis in relationships can use Mercury retrograde to bring romance back. If your “date night” has devolved from concert tickets and caviar into Netflix and nachos, change that pronto. The fifth house also rules creativity (including procreation), so if you’ve been trying to get pregnant or you have a big artistic venture in the works, the Mercury cycle affected this as well.

On October 14, a full moon illuminates your eleventh house of groups and society. Have you been working on a project for the betterment of humanity? You could receive exciting news around this moon. Friendships that have been blossoming over the last six months feel so rewarding on this day. Unless, of course, there’s some Mercury retrograde drama in the air. If so, things could come to a head—but at least you’ll clear the air. Whew! Whatever the case, your group involvement could really ratchet up to the next level.

The second half of October looks a lot more promising—and stable. First, Mercury goes direct (forward) on the 16th, a huge relief. Then on October 19, love planet Venus enters Sagittarius, your seventh house of committed partnerships. If a wishy-washy fling faded away, you’ll attract more serious “soulmate” types after the 19th. With Venus in Sagittarius, an engagement is even possible. At the very least, somebody will want to lock a commitment in or take things to the next level. If you work in the arts or fashion, a plum contract could be offered, since Venus also rules beauty.

So what to do until that happens? Get your butt in shape, Gemini. On October 5, motivator Mars goes into Scorpio, your sixth house of health, fitness and organization. Mars will be here until November 26, helping you get fit and fabulous. If you’ve been neglecting your health and stress levels, you won’t be able to ignore these matters anymore. Your body has its own intuitive wisdom Gemini, and it will behoove you to pay attention to it.

A large part of your fitness plan should be monitoring your mental health. You rule the mind, and you tend to let your thoughts direct you.  Relying on your brain as your sole compass will backfire during this Mars cycle. Gemini, your habit of overanalyzing is driving you and everyone else crazy. Enough already! Pick up Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now and A New Earth for a fascinating treatise on how to deal with your mind. Take time to meditate and exercise, too. Physical movement will disperse your manic or anxious energy.

With Mars in Scorpio, you should also do a massive overhaul of your files, papers and the other “stuff” you collect. It’s time to let some of that crap go, Gemini. Radiant health is a blessing being offered to you—don’t let a bunch of old junk (mental and material) clutter your space and prevent you from receiving this gift. The sixth house also rules pets, so consider adopting a critter who keeps you active. On October 28, a Scorpio new moon falls here, making it a great starting point for a six-month life streamlining plan. In May, the Scorpio full moon will bring a beautiful bounty for your efforts if you start now.
