Uranus Retrograde in Aries: Temper, Temper

Temper, temper! Hotheaded Uranus, the planet of surprise events, radical change and innovation, backs into low-power retrograde until December. Retrogrades CAN cause slowdowns and setbacks. They also connect us to the past, reminding us of unfinished business.

Uranus is in Aries, the impatient self-starter and the sign of independence. Aries is the star, and having brash Uranus here stokes people’s appetite for the spotlight. But Uranus retrograde will show us the limits of the saying that “there’s no such thing as bad publicity.” Seeking negative attention will backfire. Yes, sometimes it IS better to put the ego in time-out and be anonymous — especially when a bad reputation is the only thing you’ll gain by speaking out. Extreme personalities can be fascinating, but beware the narcissist masquerading as a charismatic leader. (Check out Psychology Today’s great article on how to spot a narcissist.)

Aries is the sign of anger, so choose your battles wisely now. While righteous anger may spark social change, senseless rage only destroys order and relationships. Beware your urge to be destructive, contrarian or rebellious. Uranus retrograde is an important time to find healthy outlets for anger and nervous energy. Since Aries is such a physical sign, we suggest vigorous exercise to clear the buildup of stressful energy. More people may find themselves getting migraines or sinus infections, since Aries rules the head and face. Releasing anger through healthy channels is your best preventive medicine now. Strategy games, like crosswords, chess and puzzles, can also unwind your overtaxed brain.

Did you drop a revolutionary project or idea halfway through? It’s time to go back and approach it from a creative new angle. Or, you might just give it a rest and pick it up again next year. This is a time to tweak the master plan and do your behind-the-scenes work.

Incidentally, Uranus entered Aries on March 11, the day of the earthquake in Japan. Rebuilding efforts — or the real results of the damage — may top the headlines again in the next five months. This could prompt new regulations on nuclear power plants or investigations of some that aren’t up to safety guidelines. Uranus retrograde in Aries reminds us not to miss the bigger lesson, especially about our reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

Be particularly careful with fire and electricity during this phase. Check the wiring in your home, especially if you live in an old house. Power down your computer at night, and unplug cords if you go away on a trip. Make sure the oven is off after you bake, too. Make Uranus retrograde your excuse for shutting off those devices and enjoying actual face time — without sneaking in a text message at the dinner table.
