Aquarius Season: 5 Ways to Start A Revolution by February 18

aquarius season

The revolution will not be televised…or will it? January 19 marks the bold Sun’s transition to rebel-without-a-cause Aquarius season, igniting your humanitarian streak until February 18. Aquarius is the star sign of collaborations, technology and the future.

Every 30 days or so, the Sun visits a new zodiac sign. During this “season” everyone feels the energy of this prevailing astrological energy, no matter what your Sun sign. Aquarius is the third of the zodiac’s three air signs and part of the “fixed” quality. Fixed signs (the others are Taurus, Leo and Scorpio) are the zodiac’s stabilizers—the ones who set up a solid goal or foundation, then start building. They can take the enthusiastic ideas that cardinal signs spark, and craft them into something real.

As can-do Capricorn season comes to a close, yes-we-can Aquarius takes the helm and rallies the troops to transmute our 2017 goals and resolutions into real, tangible results. As we wave goodbye to the structured, goal-oriented Goat, Aquarius season brings back our personality and individuality in spades. For the next four weeks, we’ll be less concerned with our individual accomplishments and more tuned in to what’s best for the collective whole. (And just in time for the Women’s March on Washington where we will proudly be representing!)

Aquarius is a bit of an eccentric rocket scientist, always with their head up in the clouds. This “mad scientist” energy governs all things tech, making geek oh-so chic during this phase. Scan your digital network to rally with quirky kindred spirits. There’s strength in numbers now, and Aquarius is all about casual connections and spreading the love. The more, the merrier!

But it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Symbolized by the Water Bearer, Aquarius has a tendency to bottle up their emotions until their cup runneth over! Be cautious about suppressing how you really feel during this cycle, and let yourself cry or shout it out with a trusted ally if need be. Aquarius is somewhat paradoxical in nature, maybe because it’s the star sign ruled by radical Uranus, which spins backwards on its side. The Aquarian nature is confusing to many, since it stands for individuality and rebellion, but also collaborative groups and peace, love and harmony.

So ask yourself: how much do you want to belong? We’ll all need to strike a healthy balance between finding our tribe and staying true to ourselves during Aquarius season. (This guided meditation from Terri Cole can help.)

Here are five ways to embrace the rebel yell camaraderie of Aquarius season between now and February 18.

1. Activate your activism.

Smells like team spirit? It’s time to get involved in something bigger than ourselves. Join your city’s chapter of the March on Washington (there are sister marches all over the world now!) or find other ways to protest peacefully about the issues you care about. (Fiona Apple just ever-so-timely released a Trump protest chant earlier this week, for instance.) Facebook activism and signing online petitions is a great start, but what the world really needs now is more boots-on-the-ground grassroots activism. So get up, and stand up for your rights, as we fight for equality for everyone of all races and faces: women, gay, queer, transgender, et al. As the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. so eloquently put it, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

2. Embrace collaborations and casual connections.

Sharing is caring for the next four weeks, an important reminder that there’s more than enough to go around. Pool your resources and gather your tribe. Expand your digital network and connect to savvy folks in your field. You just never know: an investor for your online venture or genius app could be just a click or swipe away!

3. Use technology for good instead of escape.

If you have computer equipment and digital devices to upgrade, start shopping around. Once you’re up to speed, create outside-of-the box ways to use technology for positive change. For example: start a social media account dedicated to a cause or issue you feel passionate about. Don’t be shy about expressing your concern over, say, impending attempts by Congress to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act in your next Facebook rant. Channel the rebellious and outspoken energy of future-forward thinking Aquarius and don’t be afraid to speak your mind. When is change in the name of progress? Know the difference between destructive and constructive and then share it with your Twitter followers.

4. Get weird…and don’t be shy about it.

We all have our weird quirks, but all too often we shy away from putting them on public display. But guess what? It’s those eccentricities that make us authentic and unique, empowering us as individuals to blaze our own trails. But watch out for unpredictable radical people too—as there’s a tendency for spontaneous combustion during this rebel-rousing cycle.

5. Join a humanitarian cause.

Care about the state of affairs? If you’re in the U.S., we sure hope so! We love the Daily Clout, to get the top trending U.S. Bills regarding topics you care about most. Or maybe your passion is for the planet, and you’re concerned about a certain President Elect’s stance on global warming. Join 350.org’s Global Climate Movement and arm yourself with the real hard facts about global warming to shoot down any naysayers. Volunteer or donate to Planned Parenthood or PETA, or research what you can do to make a difference for the children of Aleppo. Know where you stand on the issues you care about the most—such is the Aquarian way.
