Like glimmering stars in the night sky, candles have long been a manifestation must-have for rituals. We partnered with Homesick to create astrology candles that evoke the power of all 12 zodiac signs.

Do you light candles to honor the new and full moons? This practice always comes first when we sit down to write lunar-guided intentions. Fire is alchemical. It changes the light and the “breath” of the room, setting a mystical mood for these ceremonial and “peak manifesting” moments.

Astrology Candles and the Senses

Rituals need to be multisensory, not just an intellectual exercise. After all, we are “spiritual beings having a human experience.” The quickest way to activate star magic is through our bodies and our senses.

That’s where candles come in, and there’s neuroscience to prove it! Low light signals to our bodies that it’s time to relax, which can help us ease into the spiritual flow of a ritual. Fixing your gaze on a single point also helps get your mind into a meditative state. Scent is an equally powerful tool for rituals! Smells trigger memories and can transport you to a special moment in your life. The most popular astrology rituals center around new and full moons, which make sense, since they happen so frequently. New moons bring a fresh start once every month, as la luna temporarily disappears from our sight. Under the blanket of a dark sky, we symbolically wipe the slate clean. With this unobstructed view, there’s vast space to make wishes for the coming six months.

Full moons are manifestation moments when our work of the past six months comes to an important milestone. Under the brightly illuminated skies, we pause to review strategy and enjoy a moment of gratitude for all the progress we’ve made.

In addition to tracking the moon’s current phase, it’s important to know the zodiac sign that the new and full moons fall in. What energy should you invite in? Where should you focus to bring your efforts to the finish line? During a Cancer new moon, you might ask the universe to bring peace to your home and family. A Sagittarius full moon can be great for finalizing travel plans. When it’s time to do your ritual, dim the overhead lights or step outside to celebrate the moon’s magic under the night sky. Bring a notebook, your astrology candles and any special objects you’d like to charge with the energy of the new moon, such as a crystal or a glass of water that you can drink after it’s bathed in the moonlight.

Light your candle, then focus on the themes of the month’s new or full moon. See our zodiac table above for a keyword for each zodiac sign. New moons are times for setting intentions and making wishes. What would you like to create over the next six months leading up to the corresponding full moon, which will be in the same zodiac sign? Make a list in your notebook and don’t stop until you have it all down on paper. 

Then, give it a little prioritization. Which one would make the biggest difference, bringing results for you right now? Since energy is kinetic, create a win for yourself. That will boost your mood and buoy your momentum for taking the next step of the journey.

Spend five minutes or more meditating on your intention. What would it feel like to already have this manifest in your life? We highly recommend flame gazing, since staring at your candle can keep your mind from wandering away from your meditation.

Full Moon Manifestation Using Astrology Candles

Full moons focus on manifestation. Life moves so quickly that we often lose track of how far we’ve come! Sometimes the full moon will deliver a major victory to celebrate within one to three days of its arrival. But often, we need to stop and take stock of all our achievements to see that we’re already “there.” 

Like the new moon ritual, go outside or sit near a window, ideally one with a view of the full moon. Then, write a gratitude list. What are you thankful for in your life right now? What achievements and triumphs are you proudest of right now? Even if you have miles left to go until you hit your ultimate goal, saying thank you to the universe is how you stay in its abundant flow. Light your astrology candle, then read your gratitude list out loud.

After that, do something celebratory to connect to the energy of the moon. For example, during a nurturing Cancer full moon, you could prepare a special feast. During a Libra full moon, go for a starlit stroll with someone you hope to know better in the years ahead.

Other Rituals You Can Do Using Astrology Candles

New and full moons aren’t the only astrological events we do rituals for. In fact, you can create one every time a planet transits to the next sign. Notable events, like retrogrades and eclipses, for example, can shake things up. During times like these, we like doing rituals to call in a little extra protection from the universe.
