Your Chiron Retrograde in Aries Horoscope Wants You To Heal THIS Starting Now

Chiron, the “wounded healer” comet turns retrograde in Aries from July 23 to December 6, 2023. Here’s how it will affect your zodiac sign and how you can benfit.

Chiron: The Wounded Healer Comet

You may not have heard much about the comet Chiron—or call it an asteroid or planetoid, depending on which astronomer you talk to. This heavenly body makes a flower-shaped orbit between Saturn and Uranus, taking 49-50 years to move through all 12 zodiac signs.

Chiron’s role in astrology is pretty profound. As “the wounded healer,” its job is to reveal our personal and collective pain and guide us toward a high-vibe transformation.

Since its mission is to unlock a solution for transcendent healing, Chiron’s symbol, fittingly, is a key. There’s no denial allowed here. We must address the wound to dress the wound. But warning! This comet can make the issue far more visceral in order for us to heal it.

Chiron orbits between two intensely oppositional planets—uptight, restrictive Saturn and liberated, revolutionary Uranus. Like a metaphysical mediator, Chiron can help us synthesize the energy of both planets. Where do you hold yourself back (Saturn) and where can you be destructively rebellious (Uranus)? You must understand both extremes in order to find the middle ground.

What’s the deal with Chiron retrograde?

When Chiron turns retrograde (for approximately five months each year), transformation becomes more of an inside job. While we may not have quite so many external challenges, one might argue that the work gets even harder when we have to look within.

In 2023, Chiron, the “wounded healer” comet, flips into its annual retrograde on July 23, backing up through warrior sign Aries, for five months, until December 6. Learn more about retrogrades here.

This passage forces us to introspect, study our own boundaries and responses to the triggering stimuli. Once Chiron resumes forward motion, we will hopefully have gained the confidence to make any necessary changes to our outer worlds.

Oh, and about Chiron’s visit to Aries: 2018 to 2027

Chiron began its journey through the Ram’s realm in 2018 in a transit that won’t end until 2027. While in Aries, the comet is teaching us all lessons in self-empowerment and the constructive use of anger. Clearly, we have a lot more to learn! From raging political mayhem to the Russia-Ukraine war, escalated gun violence and bullying, it’s not hard to see the deep wound that Chiron in Aries is revealing.

The zodiac’s Ram can be an aggressive warrior (and Aries is a fire sign). With Chiron traversing this field, time’s up on the “fight or flight” mentality. Drawing guns, dropping bombs, putting up our dukes…the world can’t handle much more of that. Chiron in Aries is here to heal the “wounded masculine” (and the toxic masculine) which has fueled centuries of bloody destruction and devastation.

On a personal note, the Chiron in Aries cycle is for discovering your own gifts as a healer. Simultaneously, you may be processing family trauma along with anger and grief you never fully metabolized. Pull back from triggering situations as needed. This is a great time to do deep work with professional practitioners, both traditional and mystical.

Simultaneously, Chiron in Aries may also reveal where fear of conflict is keeping us stuck in self-destructive patterns. Yes, there’s a time to fight for our rights—but is there a way to do so that doesn’t involve domination, violence, one-upping and power-mongering?

Are you in your Chiron return?

If you were born with Chiron in Aries—as many people in the early 1970s were, you are in your Chiron return. This is a time of enhanced spiritual lessons; however, you will have to take an unblinking look at your core wounds in order to evolve. The exact Chiron return happens between ages 49 to 50, when the planetoid passes the same degrees of the sign it was in at your birth. Get ready for a profound year and make sure you have a lot of support around you!

Use our Chiron calculator to find out where Chiron was at your time of birth (and see more about Chiron return at the end of this article).

The vibration of a Chiron in Aries transit

When Aries goes low: hotel rooms are trashed, countries are invaded, people perpetually (desperately) try to be cool.

When Aries goes high: noble leadership, fearless originality and the self-authorized willingness to forge positive change for all.

We’re just past year four of Chiron’s trek through Aries (in 2023)—and hopefully at a turning point!

What will I feel during Chiron retrograde in Aries?

Chiron holds the key (its symbol) to your alchemical gifts, but to access them, you must turn inward and push past your own stumbling blocks.

In the sign of the fiery Ram from 2018-2027, Chiron is bringing issues of anger management, leadership and personal power to the world stage. This year has had no shortage of important causes to stand up and fight for, and Chiron’s backspin can help us all uncover soulful strategies for the battle. Meanwhile, this retrograde is an optimal time to recover from any personal power outages that may be stopping you from sticking up for your beliefs.

For example, if you’re feeling silenced, shut down or resentful, the annual Chiron retrograde provides an important window for introspection: Are you using the power of your voice to silence or dominate others? If you’ve been playing a game of “the person who speaks the loudest wins,” switch your strategy to active listening. That way, the goal is to understand rather than to respond.

For those who feel perpetually talked over, the Chiron retrograde gets you closer to the core of any confidence issues that may be standing in the way of your self-expression.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Get ready to plunge into some serious soul-searching starting Sunday, July 23, when Chiron—the “wounded healer” comet—flips into reverse. Since April 17, 2018, Chiron has been weaving through Aries, stirring up “identity politics” and, at times, giving you the urge to reinvent your entire life. Hosting this planetoid until April, 2027 is already proving to be equal parts challenging and profound. During the Chiron retrograde in Aries until December 6, keep it real about any lingering emotional issues you haven’t dealt with. Unpleasant feelings only become toxic when you brush them aside instead of embracing them.

Chiron’s tour through Aries, which lasts in total until April 14, 2027, can turn you into even more of a badass—but a badass who owns your “weaknesses,” learns from them, and uses them to help heal others. We all have a purpose on this planet, and sometimes it goes beyond what we do for a living. What is your healing superpower, Aries? What’s your most potent formula for supporting friends and family in times of crisis? Chiron in Aries reminds you that you DO make a difference—and yes, by 2027 (or long before then), you might even make a living doing just that.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Learning the meaning of “healthy boundaries” will be a big lesson for Taurus starting Sunday, July 23. The reason for this? Chiron, the comet known as “the wounded healer” takes its annual reverse commute, backing up through Aries and your twelfth house of closure, healing and the subconscious mind until December 6. There’s hardly a more devoted friend than you, Taurus, and your family loyalty is legendary. Trouble is, you can go a little overboard with your caring involvement. Then, when people don’t apply your advice (and worse, keep repeating the same “stupid” mistakes), you can snap, even turning into a raging bull. Despite your initially helpful intentions, losing your temper creates more damage and distance. What to do?

With Chiron on retreat, you’ll have an easier time pulling back—but instead of creating distractions, turn the lens on yourself. Major strides can be made in therapy, coaching or another healing modality over the next five months. By connecting to your own painful feelings, you’ll build empathy for YOURSELF. From that space, you’ll be able to support your people. Instead of enabling their bad behavior by rushing in for the save, learn to empower them to “do for self” by steering them towards tools that your practical sign has come to rely on.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Have you fallen out of touch with a supportive group of friends or someone from your “woo crew”…and what about the friend who used to call you for midnight tarot pulls or therapeutic conversations that soothed your inner child? Get back in the huddle with folks like these. On Sunday, July 23, Chiron—the “wounded healer” comet—spins retrograde, backing up through Aries and your eleventh house of community until December 6.

On the opposite side of the coin, you may be pondering a massive un-friending spree. Banishing toxic people is a powerful first step, Gemini. But if you don’t look within, you’ll just attract the same personality types in different bodies. The REAL healing comes when you figure out why you’re drawn to these frenemies in the first place. Have you been placing too much weight on status, fame or some other ego-derived illusion? Do they remind you of a parent…and are you working out a childhood issue through this difficult dance?

There’s merit in digging below the surface during Chiron retrograde in Aries—that’s how you’ll recognize the red flags BEFORE you get in too deep. No skipping steps—it’s time to introspect.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Ever since “wounded healer” comet Chiron advanced into Aries and your career zone in 2018, you’ve been on a mission to make your daily work feel more like a soul calling. Get ready to sink deeper into that discovery starting Sunday, July 23, but not by pushing forward! As Chiron slips into its annual retrograde until December 6, the clues to your next steps lie in your past.

Maybe it’s time to pick up a half-finished training or enroll in a master’s program. A healing profession or something distinctly “woo” could have your name written all over it. Perhaps you already love what you do, but just want to have a greater impact. Use this five-month window when Chiron goes retrograde in Aries to connect to people on a similar path—or deepen your knowledge so that you can bring a more fulfilling dimension to your work. That’s a win-win for everyone!

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Ready to liberate yourself from certain responsibilities? As Chiron, the “wounded healer” comet, spins into its annual retrograde on Sunday, July 23, start looking for ways to lighten your load. Until December 6, this celestial soothsayer slips back through Aries and your self-authorized ninth house, which can help with this discernment process. You’re an extreme “do-er,” Leo, but your capable command can be a double-edged sword. That’s especially true if you wind up creating dependencies instead of igniting the spirit of collaboration.

Chiron’s backspin calls for deep examination. How DID you get yourself into these burdensome situations in the first place? Your “need to be needed” may be the culprit—or, if you’re being honest, a desire to wow the crowds and “prove” yourself. Starting July 23, make it your personal mission to create healthy boundaries around everything you do. No need to bail on the ones you love. Just start by means carving out a bit more autonomy and personal space. If you’ve allowed a partner to take care of YOU, this is your call to step up and do some adulting.

Maybe it’s time to work with a professional guide, like a coach or therapist) to help create lasting solutions. Going to the people in your personal life for every “What should I do?” crisis may be straining relationships. You’ll all be happier once that job is outsourced to a pro.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Have you been contemplating a major life overhaul or, at least, a noteworthy upgrade? On Sunday, July 23, Chiron, the comet known as “the wounded healer,” slips into its annual, five-month retrograde. This year (and from 2018 until 2027), the backspin takes place in Aries and your mystical, transformational eighth house. With Chiron turning your compass in a spiritual direction over the last few years, life has been anything BUT surface-y or superficial. The eighth house is penetrating and sexy! Which may explain why you’ve been longing for deep, all-encompassing connections in love and friendship.

But are you attaching to people who can match your energy? With Chiron in reverse until December 6, give your crew a review. Everyone has baggage—but what’s your weight limit? Clarify so you don’t wind up burdened by someone else’s load. Coupled Virgos may come face to face with some potent feelings before 2022 is through, everything from jealousy to lust to commitmentphobia. Don’t judge yourself; but make no sudden moves. These, too, shall transmute and pass.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Are you in or are you out? On Sunday, July 23, Chiron (the “wounded healer” comet) slips into its annual retrograde, backstroking through Aries and your seventh house of partnerships, which could leave you examining the flow of your closest connections. Do you have enough space to express your individuality—or have you merged into a couple bubble that needs to be burst? How well are you communicating your needs and desires (not to mention your basic scheduling) to one another? No relationship is perfect, Libra, so if you’ve been romanticizing and idealizing how things “should” be, change your measuring stick.

It’s how you handle conflicts when they invariably arise that truly makes or breaks the bond. If assumptions and resentment have crept in, Chiron’s retreat can help you finesse the way you express. But don’t forget the other half of the communication equation: listening with compassion and respect. From business partnerships to romantic relationships, there will be a lot of negotiating to do for the five months of Chiron reverse in Aries.

Dive in, Libra. This will go a long way towards reducing stress and creating space for self-care and success in the final quarter of the year.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

You may feel like liberating yourself from structures that are seriously cramping your style beginning Sunday, July 23…not to mention your summer goals. We’re NOT talking about undoing all the internal progress you’ve made. But if there’s no method to the madness, why are you cleaving to these controlling ways? Chiron, the “wounded healer” comet, pivots into its annual retrograde, this year (and until 2027), backing up through Aries and your sixth house of wellness, work and service until December 6.

This forced timeout is a blessing in disguise, giving you a chance to reinvent your daily habits so that they are as pleasurable as they are productive. If your career constantly cuts into your love life or steals time from your personal passions, begin rethinking your trajectory. Scorpio, you love to be consumed by your professional pursuits—or any pursuit, TBH. If you’re not obsessed, it’s not going to hold your interest.

But Chiron’s backward motion in Aries can teach you important lessons about work-life balance. We need to digest our food between meals and our thoughts between conversations. It’s time to apply that same maxim to your career, even if that means “enforcing” some new rules for yourself if you need a structure.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

Need to figure out “next steps,” Sagittarius? That search could send you on a soulful journey of discovery starting Sunday, July 23, as deep-diving Chiron (the “wounded healer” comet) spins retrograde in Aries and your fifth house fame, self-expression and romance. You’ve always known you were here to do something meaningful in this lifetime. What’s the message you want to preach and teach? If you’re not the frontperson, perhaps there’s another strong leader you’d like to signal-boost.

But don’t be so quick to pass the baton! With Chiron in reverse until December 6, you might work with a speaking coach or try a workshop that teaches you how to authentically present yourself on stage or podium. The fifth house is also Cupid’s realm, and Chiron’s reverse could set off different types of fireworks. Over the coming five months, you might reconnect to a caring person from your past—a love interest who really DOES have your best interests at heart. But shield your field! This is no time to be gullible or overly optimistic.

Chiron can scratch at unhealed wounds, forcing us to deal with them and find a lasting “treatment.” You may be faced with a test over the coming days: Dive in with the exciting but destabilizing person…and wind up in the same obsessive rabbit hole—or, just say no to that first sext, kiss, or other gesture and save a vacancy for someone who can romance you with respect? The choice is yours during Chiron’s reverse commute in Aries, but don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Give your inner child a giant squeeze! On Sunday, July 23, “wounded healer” comet Chiron turns retrograde, slipping back through Aries and your zone of home and family until December 6. Over the next five months, you may find yourself reflecting on the role your parents played (or didn’t play) in your development. If you’re a parent yourself, you may be ruminating on some of the choices you’ve made—or maybe you’re longing to heal some rifts with your kids.

Breathe, Capricorn! Chiron hovers in Aries until April 14, 2027, giving you five more years to work all of this out. If you can’t foster connections with your biological relatives, you might find a mentor who can serve as a spiritual mom or dad; or, take a younger person under your wing as your soul child. Where you live might also come under the microscope.

If your current digs are out of alignment with the lifestyle you want to lead, the retrograde in Aries could lead you BACK to a place that was sacred or inspire you to set up your privacy zones so you have ample space to meditate, recharge and relax when you’re at Casa Goat.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

You’re no stranger to setting off fireworks with your wild stories, offbeat humor and radical POV. But starting Sunday, July 23, be discerning about what (and how!) you share. Chiron, the “wounded healer” comet turns retrograde, backing up through Aries and your communication zone until December 6. The power of your words will be quite evident during this backspin, for better and for worse. Think before you text, talk and tweet! An “innocent little comment” could set off weeks of personal drama—and your mic-drops could incite a riot.

Maybe you were just sharing your feelings, Aquarius, but don’t underestimate your impact. Have you been locked in a misunderstanding with someone who was once close to you? Chiron’s retrograde in Aries may offer a chance at reconciliation. But instead of storming in like an opinionated radical. aim to be the wise negotiator who creates win-wins. First step: Seek to REALLY understand people’s underlying intentions. Relationships that were withering on the vine could suddenly start to flourish.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Where do your values lie, Pisces? Starting Sunday, July 23, you’ll be reminded that you vote with your dollar, as “wounded healer” comet Chiron turns retrograde in Aries and your second house of ethics and income. Chiron has been in your money zone since April 2018, urging you to create a powerful connection to your cash and career.

During Chiron’s reverse motion in Aries, which lasts until December 6, do a thorough review of the books. Where might you be leaking funds for superfluous purchases? Do the companies you support have ethical hiring practices; do they produce sustainably and leave the lowest possible impact on the environment? Shopping responsible businesses doesn’t have to be an expensive proposition, Pisces—and doing so will pay spiritual dividends.

Some of your own limiting beliefs about your earning power could also come into play. If the work you’re doing isn’t AS meaningful as you’d like, your path might pivot in a powerful direction while Chiron is here until April 2027. Use the retrograde to research training, certification programs and other bridges to help you cross over to a new field. As Confucius famously quipped, “Find a job you love and you’ll never work another day in your life.”

Ready for more? How to find your Chiron sign and learn what it means

Your astrology birth chart holds clues about some of your most pivotal soul lessons!

Here’s an example: A segment of Gen X-ers were born with Chiron in Aries, which took place in the early 1970s. This group is here to learn how to use anger effectively and to become responsible leaders. But how? This generation was raised on movies about rebellious teens who flouted convention, like the school-skipping wild-child Ferris Bueller or a hard partying Tom Cruise skidding across the floor in his infamous white briefs of Risky Business. That “live for today” ethos and eternally youthful spirit has Aries written all over it. But it also comes at a cost to relationships, the environment and the future of the planet. Ruh-roh.

The reason Chiron’s symbol is the key is because it unlocks our healing gifts by taking us through our own transformational process. So look to your Chiron sign to find those!

Are you in your Chiron return?

Chiron generally stays in a single zodiac sign for eight years. When he enters Saturn’s orbit, he can buzz through a single sign in under two years. Since Chiron takes approximately 49 years to journey through all 12 zodiac signs, we all go through a “Chiron return” near our 50th birthdays.

At this point, our core wounds may surface for another round of therapy, especially if we’ve resisted doing any deeper self-examination. So between ages 49-51, the Chiron return (when Chiron returns to the sign it was in when you were born) will certainly insist upon soul searching. If you’ve done your work, you may be called into leadership roles that allow us to spread our wisdom and flex our healing gifts at this time.

Find your Chiron sign in your birth chart here and learn what it means.
