A push toward prosperity AND partnership arrives on Friday, June 9, 2017, as the expansive Sagittarius full moon lights the skies. But wait, there’s more: That same day, worldly Jupiter in harmonious Libra rouses from a retrograde that began on February 6. Coincidentally enough, outspoken Sagittarius is also the sign that is ruled by abundant Jupiter. Translation: the filters are coming off!
Like an echo of the red-spotted planet’s pivot out of retrograde, the adventurous Sagittarius full moon may illuminate some major truths that have been hidden from the world. There could be some jaw dropping headlines near the weekend (yes, again!).
On a more personal note, these moonbeams could also bring a potent reminder that honesty is still the best policy. Confessing is always better than having someone else expose your story. Or, are you ready to see more of the wide world? Sagittarius is the zodiac’s global nomad, and this full moon might be the cue that we all need to break out our passports and go visit some unexplored terrain. No matter our coordinates, multicultural connections will get a powerful boost from the Sagittarius full moon. Time to work together and cross those invisible lines!
This Sagittarius lunation will culminate early Friday morning, and will therefore appear fullest to the naked eye the night prior and then after it reaches its peak. Named by Algonquin tribes as the “Strawberry Moon” for a time of ripening fruit, the June full moon is also being called a “mini-moon” (or apogee moon) since it’s the smallest full moon of 2017 at its furthest point away from Earth—making it the opposite of a supermoon.
With optimistic Jupiter—Sagittarius’ planetary guardian—powering forward into direct motion in peaceful Libra—the sign of balance—we’ll all be more courageous when it comes to speaking our truth. Since Libra is the sign of partnerships, any important relationships that have hit a speed bump during Jupiter’s backspin will restart with a better sense of give and take.
But don’t forget: Your mate is also your mirror. What irritates you about other people may be a quality you need to tune up within yourself. Jupiter’s pivot could also bring about justice on the world stage, even forcing certain pacts and peace treaties to be signed. The fight for equality has certainly ramped up since outspoken Jupiter entered Libra last September 9, has it not?
To help you prepare for takeoff at the Sagittarius full moon and pave the way for powerful partnerships with Jupiter going direct, here are nine ways to make yourself big, brave and brazen—and to embrace the legendary risk-taking prowess of Jupiter and Sagittarius!
1. Be your own travel agent.
Globetrotting Sag is the sign of international travel and global connections. Where in the world would you like to go next? No, you may not be able to hop a plane to Bali tomorrow, but you can snag a Rosetta Stone foreign language course, cook an Indonesian meal (do the words “gado gado” mean anything to you? Google away!) or take a dance class in the meantime. Broaden your cultural and geographic horizons, even if that just means having dinner on the other side of town, or taking a spontaneous road trip for the day. (For inspiration, we love the travel site AFAR.)
2. Embrace the “geek is chic” ethos.
Anyone remember Steven Urkel from the ’90s TV sitcom Family Matters? The actor who played him, Jaleel White, is a Sagittarius—and his quirky character made him an unsung hero of the early geek-chic movement. While you may not prance around in hiked-up pants and thick glasses (but by all means, do you!), let us all groove on some Urkelization by celebrating our intelligence today.Sagittarius is symbolized by the Archer or centaur, a half-human half-horse. The human part of Sag is forever seeking lofty answers, enlightened perspectives and wise discourse. Flaunt your smarts today!
3. Channel your animal instincts.
Disclaimer on #2! While Sagittarius has a cerebral side, from the waist down, the mythical Centaur is all animal. So as wise and worldly as Sagittarius energy can be, it can also be rather randy and primal, forever in pursuit of instant gratification and wild times. (Think of Sagittarians like the newly single and openly sober Brad Pitt, who’s a self-taught architect, or Scarlett Johansson, who wins all those “sexiest mortal” awards but is also well-spoken and politically active.) The Archer is also the sign of the hunter, and under the Sagittarius full moon, you might just be looking for some fresh game. Oh well, that’s part of being human, too—so stretch beyond your comfort zones in the dating and mating scene today.
4. Indulge in healthy hedonism.
Since Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, mythic god of the feast, we’re all encouraged to dip into decadence. So you’re gluten-free, don’t eat dairy, swore off red meat? Well, maybe you take a day off from all that to indulge! Or, find a way to combine “plant-based” and “pleasure whore” in a single, believable sentence—and share the results with friends at a healthy epicurean dinner party.
5. Tell the whole truth and nothing but.
Truth is one of the highest virtues. Yet, why do we spend so much time avoiding it, or spinning it into a warped dubstep remix? Like a spoonful of cough syrup, honesty can be brutal (and bitter) when we get our first taste. But, if we’re brave enough, it can also set us free. That’s the theme of this keeping-it-real full moon. Sagittarius is the zodiac’s most brutally honest sign and full moons always bring a big reveal. Put these two elements together, and you’ve got the makings of a “true confessions” day.
6. Quit lying to yourself.
On the topic of truth-saying, denial zaps a lot of life force energy. This super-powered full moon could expose the full panoramic view of something you’ve avoided or covered up. If you’ve been unable to pinpoint the source of your suffering, this full moon could uncover a blind spot or two. While seeing yourself this objectively may be jarring, it will also be enlightening. As Thomas Jefferson said, “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.”
7. Get out in nature.
Globe-trotting Sagittarius always feels most expansive in a wide-open space. Make a point of seeking adventure around this full moon. Get away from urban chaos and out into nature! Freeing your mind also broadens your horizons now. Sign up for a seminar, invest in coaching sessions, read that metaphysical book your enlightened friend insists has changed her life. Check out PhilosophersNotes.com—a website that “CliffsNotes” the best personal growth books on the market today. Because free-spirited Sag loves to learn but hates to sit still, you might want to get a few of these books in audio format, so you can listen while you take an all-day hike.
8. Join the conversation.
Sure, we may live in a world of privilege and surface-level tolerance, relatively speaking. But racism, sexism and other isms are still alive and well, whether they show up as overt attacks of micro-aggressions. Sociological Sag encourages us to increase our awareness around privilege, social inequality and intergroup relation. Check out blogs like Racialicious.com (“the intersection of race and pop culture”) or the multicultural body image blog AdiosBarbie.com (full disclosure: AstroTwin Ophi is a co-founder of this 20-year-old site). Sure, it might be uncomfortable to read some of this material—but if we look at these injustices as a global responsibility, we can all do our part to create a world that’s welcoming to everyone.
9. Gather your tribe.
Despite the aforementioned matters, on a one-on-one level, Sagittarius is all about rolling with your “soul family,” too—a motley crew united by shared values, interests and philosophies. At this full moon, rally your tribe and tell your friends to bring their friends. Adopt a more-the-merrier approach and welcome people from backgrounds different than your own. As Mother Teresa said, “The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.” Global ambassador Sagittarius helps us connect across boundaries. Now, who wants to belt out a few karaoke numbers?
