“It Takes Two” Is Your Libra Full (Worm) Moon Mantra

Peace, love and harmony are the order of the day on March 20 (9:43PM EDT), when the Libra full supermoon—the first in a rare, back-to-back pair—shines overhead. This harmonious zodiac sign counts among its ranks John Lennon, Alfred Nobel (of the Nobel Peace Prize) and Gandhi whose advice to “be the change you wish to see in the world” will feel like the answer to everything under this lunar light.

March’s Full Worm Moon arrives with serious fanfare! Named for the time when the ground softens and the earthworms pop up to lure the sweet-singing robins, this the third full supermoon of 2019. That means it will sit at the closest possible proximity (perigee) to Earth. Although it won’t necessarily look bigger or brighter, on a metaphysical level, its influence could be stronger.

For the first time since 1981, March’s full moon arrives on the same day as the Spring Equinox, when night and day share the sky for near-equal lengths of time. Doubling down on this harmonious theme, la luna will be shining in Libra, the zodiac sign of balance and partnerships. The spirit of cooperation is in the air!

But wait…there’s more! In 2019, there will be a second Libra full moon, which blossoms on April 19 and picks up on the pair-bonding vibes that ignite this March 20. With this partnership-oriented energy afoot, here are six ways to embrace the power of two.

1. Define your relationships.

Are you in or are you out? Libra marks the halfway point around the zodiac wheel, the turning point where the astrological energy shifts from “me” to “we.” Near this full moon, you may feel dissatisfied by relationships that are hovering in the casual zone, whether they’re dating situations to professional collaborations. Start hashing out clear terms: Is this going to be an exclusive union or is it cool to sleep or work with other people…and if so, for how long? If you’re paired up on a project, what is each person’s respective role and how do you share the profits and glory? Fortunately, Libra is the zodiac’s diplomat, and this full moon lends a hand in keeping negotiations peaceful.

There’s no rush to determine these parameters! For one thing, deliberate Libra likes to take it slow. Plus, Mercury is still rounding out its March 5 to 28 retrograde at the time of the full supermoon, making March 20 a less-auspicious time to ink official deals. But you can start speculating and getting creative. What would the ideal win-win look like to each of you? Give yourself until the second Libra full moon this April 19 to talk through different scenarios. Then, put it in writing!

 2. Attract your opposite.

Still searching for your “missing puzzle piece”? While common ground is a beautiful bonding agent, try beaming your searchlight a little further near this supermoon. Libra, the great balancer, knows that opposites attract. Complementary skill sets can make for a total dream team, even if your head-scratching matchup makes little sense on paper. In truth, unlikely pairings can be the greatest win-win combinations. If you’re stuck in a rut, don’t autopilot into dialing a BFF or your “work wife” for an assist. Step outside of your comfort zone instead! It may be far more productive (not to mention inspiring) to reach out to someone new—especially if they’ve conquered the very dragon you’re trying to slay. Artistes, team up with the “enginerds”; mathematicians, seek someone who understands the metaphysical realm. Your powerful pairing could deliver the best of both worlds!

3. Wear your heart—and your art—on your sleeve.

Luxe-loving Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty, fashion and the arts. Image may not be everything, but Libra knows the powerful impact great style can have. Let this full moon teach you how to speak a strong visual language. Have you always wanted to dye your hair baby pink or try a platinum bob? Or maybe get a tiny tattoo on your ankle (or a full-on sleeve of your favorite tarot card on your forearm). While Mercury is hovering in retrograde until March 28, get those Pinterest boards started. Play with apps that let you virtually make over your hairstyle. Start following tattoo and makeup artists on Instagram for inspiration. But wait before you make any game-changing moves. By the second Libra full moon on April 19, you’ll be ready for a full-on spring style awakening.

Do you feel totally lost in the face of fashion’s kaleidoscopic options? Or maybe you’re constantly riding the roller coaster of trends—or avoiding them and sticking to boring basics. It might be worth it to consult a professional stylist who can help you identify a signature look. Most sessions start with shopping in your own closet to find what foundational pieces you already have, and which might be missing, like a great denim jacket or Breton-striped shirt. The consultation fee pays for itself when you determine what future shopping faux pas to avoid (badly placed ruffles, waist-cinching jeans) and how to mix and match the staples with the statement pieces.

If you already have a perfectly curated wardrobe, you’re in luck! Elegant Libra loves a dress-up date, and this full moon gives you the excuse you need to trot out those sartorial favorites. Whether you’re meeting friends for a fancy gallery opening or enjoying a night at the theater with bae, let this full supermoon bring you out of hibernation in a colorful, glamorous way!

4. Practice peaceful communication.

As our old-school Aries uncle Sami once said, tapping his fork on the rim of his plate for emphasis, “If you can’t fight with someone, you can’t love them.” Meaning sometimes, you’ve gotta shout it out to reach compromise. But what’s the difference between hotheaded screaming and productive conflict resolution? We believe it’s the intention behind your “fight.” If both parties, in their hearts, truly want to reach a win-win solution, then all the fighting words come out in the wash. But if you’re digging in your heels just to win a power struggle, there can be no peace. As Libra peace icon Gandhi said, “Honest disagreement is often a good sign of progress.” (He also warned us that “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”) You can still respect the other person’s right to their principles, even if you disagree with them.

If you find yourself locking horns with loved ones regularly, make like Libra Eminem and take yourself on an Anger Management Tour. Learning to disagree without disrespecting the other party is a lost art form in this age of Twitter wars. But sometimes, even the most diplomatic, and well-crafted reaction only opens Pandora’s box and further enflames the conflict. Harmonious Libra knows how to rise above a power struggle and search for common ground, which may be the path to peace during this supermoon. Take a cue from late Libra Marshall Rosenberg, who left behind a legacy of conflict-resolution called Non-Violent Communication (NVC). Rather than reacting to a so-called enemy’s angry words, NVC teaches how to listen with empathy, seeking to understand the emotion behind the rant. By approaching heated conversations with curiosity and compassion, bridges can be built (instead of burned).

5. Strive for balance.

As above, so below; as within, so without. At the Libra full moon, check your habits, your home, your diet. Where has balance gone awry?

At home: Has your once-calm oasis turned into a noisy, cluttered hub? Tear a page from organizational savant (and surprise, surprise, Libra) Marie Kondo’s tidying bible and bring some serenity back to your sanctuary. By now, you’ve probably heard at least one friend bragging about the carload of goods which no longer “spark joy” that they donated to charity—after thanking them for what they provided, per Kondo’s advice. Whether you want to do a full-on minimalist purge or just tackle one communal area, let the Libra full moon get your clean-up mission in motion. But don’t forget the aesthetic element, yes even when it comes to organizing closets and drawers.

In your diet: Have you been going too heavy on the stimulants like caffeine or burning it up with spicy foods? Learn about the pH scale of acid versus alkaline foods, and try to add a few more alkalizing options listed on this acid-alkaline food chart. You don’t have to go to extremes, like Libra Gwyneth Paltrow who once ate miso soup for breakfast and dinner during a macrobiotic phase. Simply making your mantra, “all things in moderation” can already bring a seismic shift.

At the office: Many of us function on stress and adrenaline at our jobs. Where can you be more awake, conscious and calm around your finances and work? Libra also rules the lower back, so if you need more spinal support (and many of us do), look into standing desk options, or just make your own.

6. Join a Justice League.

The scales of justice are the Libra motif, and this full moon shines a bright beam on bias, discrimination, or anything that’s just plain unfair. Speak out and contribute to a social cause. Is someone being bullied in your neighborhood, school, or within your family? Would you like to see your office culture be more inclusive? Are animals being mistreated in your area? Channel the Libra energy of the “peaceful warrior” and do something to help right the wrong. Whether you’re donating time or money doesn’t matter. A social media campaign can raise awareness and inspire others who do have means to put some funds behind an important initiative.
