Aliens, Bitcoins and Communes, oh my!
Those may very well be the new ABCs of the 2020s and beyond, as the world enters what we’ve coined The Aquarian Decade—a period that began with the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn at 0°29′ Aquarius at the 2020 winter solstice.
If you didn’t hear about the so-called “Christmas Star” that was visible anywhere clouds weren’t performing on December 21, 2020, you quite possibly live under a chunk of Moldavite or in an enchanted forest somewhere. No judgment, of course. We’d love to visit.

The “dawning of the Age of Aquarius”
Many have proclaimed that the Great Conjunction was the “dawning of the Age of Aquarius,” while others argue that the sun rose on the Water Bearer’s era years, even decades, ago. Some say it’s yet to come.
Whether the Aquarian Age happened on a Broadway stage, at Woodstock or in some 2019 Brooklyn brownstone ayahuasca ceremony, we’re not here to bicker about it.
We’ll just look at the stars—or, more specifically, at Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto—which are headed decisively in the Aquarius direction for the rest of the 2020s and beyond. (Hence, our decision to call this the Aquarian Decade. You can’t argue with a telescope.)
Saturn in Aquarius:
March 21 – July 1, 2020
December 17, 2020 – March 7, 2023
Jupiter in Aquarius:
December 19, 2020 – May 13, 2021
July 28 – December 28, 2021
Pluto in Aquarius:
March 23 – June 11, 2023
January 20, 2024 – January 19, 2044
The Aquarius Decade all began with the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21, 2020, which happened just two days after Jupiter entered Aquarius, and four days after Saturn’s ingress into Aquarius.
Why was this Great Conjunction so…great?
Jupiter and Saturn actually meet at the Conjunction Cafe every 20 years. (Jupiter: One frappuccino, extra whip, extra shot! Saturn: Just an herbal tea, thanks.)
What was noteworthy is that this particular alliance ended 200 years of Great Conjunctions in earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), and began a 150-year cycle of Great Conjunctions in air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius).
Since the 1800s, we’ve been focused on earth-centered pursuits: property, ownership, development of land, money and material concerns.
Now, we’ll shift to an air orientation: communication, community, the spread of ideas, technology.
Late 2020 was our the launch into The Aquarian Decade, one that will shape our values, virtues and visions for the next 20 years, if not for a century and a half.
So, what WILL change during The Aquarian Decade?
Many people are eagerly awaiting a shift to more Aquarian values of community and collaboration. A world that works for everyone rather than a small percentage of the population owning/controlling the majority of wealth and resources.
In 2021, optimistic Jupiter’s presence in Aquarius fueled that vision—and gave rise to innovations and developments that bring a more egalitarian approach to the world.
But we must not forget that restrictive, hard-driving Saturn is also in Aquarius—and prior to Uranus‘ discovery as a planet in 1781, Saturn was the classical ruler of Aquarius. (Who’s your daddy, Aquarius? The battle persists.)
Those lovely Aquarian values that sound beautiful in theory will have to be architected with great care and respect.
Otherwise we could see the shadow side of the Water Bearer’s urn. Such as: A rise in social control. Technology the divides and disrupts, spawning a new “one percent” of data-mining digital oligarchs whose names don’t end in Bezos or Musk. Excessive interference in individual rights by government and the state. More restriction on community interaction (as we experienced during the enforced quarantine of Saturn’s spring 2020 cameo in Aquarius).
Consider Saturn’s return to Aquarius a reminder: Crafting utopian ideals into reality is easier said than done.
Getting the greater population to adopt a “we first” rather than a “me first” stance is another epic quest—especially since most people find comfort in a law-and-order system, even when they aren’t its beneficiaries. Add in the rise of fearmongering and conspiracy theories already amok on the dark web, and it’s beginning to look a lot like…Pluto?
When shadowy Pluto joined the Aquarian brigade in March 2023, issues of power and control are showing to be exerted onto society and into any group endeavor.
Will Plutonian greed spread farther and entrench itself deeper—or will we be able to bring power and transformation to all? Our choices will help set the stage, so bear in mind that you play a role in this unfolding Aquarian Decade, too.
So wait, should we cancel the festival?
This is not to pop the bubble of anyone humming along to the Hair soundtrack and celebrating the end of The Worst Year Ever (2020) to begin The Aquarian Decade. By all means, rejoice that 2020 ended.
But don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater by trying to erase the hard drive of your memory, however painful it was. There are crucial lessons to be gleaned from 2020, ones that will guide us well into The Aquarian Decade with new survival skills.
It’s no mistake that Jupiter, the planetary Pollyanna, is the only outer planet name-checked in “Age of Aquarius.”
When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius

Saturn and Pluto are hardly the types to let you buy on credit or pay with “peace and love.” It’s gonna take hard work and effort to “let the sunshine in…leeeeeet the sunshine in,” especially when those blindingly idealistic rays try to penetrate the fortress of Pluto’s cavernous underworld.
We’re building a new spaceship, an unprecedented reality, a gut-renovated society. That doesn’t happen in a day, a week or a year—or even a decade. But through trials (Saturn) and transformation (Pluto), we may triumph and leave a legacy among the many epochs of civilization.
Until then, we’ll enjoy a feel-good boost from Jupiter—whether the moon is in the seventh house or not.
