By February 28, the SIX planets that have already—uniquely—been visible in the night sky of the northern hemisphere will jump to an astonishing SEVEN! So that’s neat and all, but what’s the astrology of the 2025 planetary alignment (or “planet parade”) everyone is talking about?
But first: What is a planetary alignment?
On any given night, with your naked eye (or an app if the weather is spotty) the sky has 1-3 visible planets, including the moon, which isn’t technically a planet but is considered one in astrology.
On occasion, when more 4 or more planets are visible, it’s referred to as a planetary alignment (or a planet parade, as popular press likes to call it). While not exactly rare, they create a lot of curiosity. Depending on where you live, seeing the stars any night might be a treat in itself. Where we live (in NYC and Seattle) our views of the cosmos often compete with light pollution and cloud cover. So to see SEVEN? Insert starry-eyed emoji! Still, you might need a telescope, or a high-powered pair of binoculars, to see all seven planets this winter, even if conditions are good!

Why a planetary alignment appears like, well, a line
So while “planet parade” isn’t a technical term in astronomy, even NASA says a “planetary alignment” “can refer to several different phenomena.”
“As the planets of our solar system orbit the Sun, they occasionally line up in space in events called oppositions and conjunctions,” NASA says—hey, we astrologers use some of those terms, too! We call them aspects:
An opposition is when two planets are 180º from each other and in opposite signs in the zodiac (or six signs apart). In other words, they’re as far apart as they can get from each other. Oppositions create dynamic tension, but they also bring two extremes together, which can be extremely powerful.
A conjunction occurs when two planets are within 0º of each other and in the same zodiac sign. As a result, their energies blend. In astrology we consider a conjunction an extremely powerful alliance—like a megadose of one kind of energy, or too much of a good thing.
NASA adds that a planetary alignment can also refer to apparent lineups in our sky with other planets, the moon, or bright stars. See, astronomy and astrology are close cousins!
PSA: The planetary alignment, while appearing in a line (or string of lights), is not to be confused with faux-president Elon Musk‘s Starlink satellites. Glad we cleared that up. Now can someone do something in D.C.?
Back to our topic at hand…
Is there anything astrologically significant about the planetary alignment?
Astrologically, the planets in the parade are all grouped in one section of the zodiac—spread out across five of the twelve zodiac signs: Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus and Gemini. So in that sense, they are close to each other, making various aspects (within 3-5º of each other in the zodiac) to each other all month. Aspect, remember, is the astrological term for one of the seven significant angles that we track in astrology.
Here are the signs the parading planets will move through in February 2025:
1. Mercury: Aquarius and Pisces
2. Venus: Aries
3. Mars: Cancer
4. Jupiter: Gemini
5. Saturn: Pisces
6. Uranus: Taurus
7. Neptune: Pisces
What’s the planetary alignment in 2025? Roll call!
The planetary alignment of 2025, by February 28, will have SEVEN planets in its roster when Mercury joins the “parade.” That means if you “missed” the January 2025 parade of planets, you kinda didn’t, because the February 2025 planetary parade promises to be bigger!
Below are the seven planets of the February 2025 planetary alignment and what they mean in astrology, plus in which zodiac sign they are currently transiting (and what it means for you).
MERCURY
Planet No. 1 in the planetary alignment
Mercury is the the messenger planet, directing the ways we think, communicate and share information.
Mercury enters Pisces on Valentine’s Day 2025 (where it stays until March 3). In this sign, Mercury cranks the volume on your intuition, and you could download all sorts of divine inspiration. Your subconscious will be buzzing, especially after dark, during this transit. Make time for candlelight meditations, sound baths and any activities that relax your mind so you can receive messages and insights. Don’t rush to share them all though! Mercury in Pisces can drive up ambiguity.
Mercury is of course well known for Mercury retrograde. But don’t worry, the first Mercury retrograde of 2025 doesn’t begin until March 15!
VENUS
Planet No. 2 in the planetary alignment
Venus is the planet of love, beauty and harmony. This planet sets the stage for romance and indulges in Cupid’s offerings liberally.
Vixen Venus vaulted into Aries on February 4, igniting a passionate pre-spring awakening. During the free-flowing Venus in Aries transit, it might feel more like “uncuffing season,” which could make relationships feel too close for comfort. Impulse control may be scarce, but as a rule, zip and unzip judiciously. Rash behaviors and decisions can come back to haunt you.
A little impulse control will go a long way because love is lit during this longer-than-usual cycle…because it comes with a loophole: Venus retrograde. This six-week backspin begins (in Aries) on March 1, and could tamp down some of the bold, impulsive energy that’s signature for this sign’s hosting of the love planet.
MARS
Planet No. 3 in the planetary alignment
Mars governs passion and sex drive. With its blood red color and raging dust storms, it is little wonder that Mars is also the planet associated with anger and combat.
Mars began 2025 retrograde in Leo, where it started chilling out on December 6. It moved (still retrograde) into Cancer on January 6. The Mars retrograde in Cancer will make life frustrating until February 23. On that day the small-but-mighty planet moves forward (direct, as we astrologers say) and the frenetic energy should subside.
For the final stretch of winter, set up the craft table and mix up some craft cocktails, as you get into the spirit of cold-weather communing. Vanquish the tension under your roof by decluttering, redecorating and making sure everyone has enough space to do their thing. The red planet’s motivational influence may inspire a home-based business or a pre-spring fitness challenge with roommates and relatives. If cabin fever has fanned the flames of conflict, here’s your cue to escape to the slopes for a weekend, or maybe the beach!
JUPITER
Planet No. 4 in the planetary alignment
Jupiter is the big daddy of the solar system. In astrology, Jupiter inspires us to grow, expand and take risks. Jupiter ended a five-month retrograde in Gemini on February 4!
The Jupiter Gemini transit began in May 2024 and lasts until June 9, 2025. While Jupiter is in fast-talking Gemini, ideas and intellect become reigning cosmic currency.
Now that the Jupiter retrograde is over, don’t be shy about striking up conversations! Tag-team efforts are blessed with the mighty planet’s powers. This is your cosmic cue to think big and assert yourself boldly (well, once you have all the facts). Jupiter in Gemini can amplify your voice and help you reach a global crowd.
Jupiter moves into Cancer on June 9, 2025. It will be big-hearted, philosophical Jupiter’s first sail on nurturing Cancer’s emotion ocean since 2014! As the red-spotted planet sounds a global call for empathy, expect kindness and compassion to be en vogue again.
SATURN
Planet No. 5 in the planetary alignment
Saturn is the karma police, the whistle-blowing taskmaster of the skies. In astrology, Saturn governs time and the wisdom and expertise that comes from slow, steady and structured growth.
Saturn spends three years in a zodiac sign and has been melting reality in Pisces since 2023. Saturn in Pisces.
Stoic Saturn won’t fall back into a ditch (retrograde) until July 13, 2025. While Saturn is direct and the mature planet is humming along in sensitive Pisces, it’s opened a powerful window for you to explore your faith and heal from past triggers and traumas. It’s heavy stuff, but think of it this way: when your world is in order, it’s a whole lot easier to navigate the external world. That’s the beauty of the Saturn in Pisces transit (which lasts until February 2026).
URANUS
Planet No. 6 in the planetary alignment
Uranus is the eureka! planet. It governs the zodiac sign Aquarius, under which Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, was born. In astrology, radical and metaphysical Uranus is the planet that rules our higher minds.
Uranus retrograde ended on January 30, in sensible Taurus. Uranus is in direct motion until September 6, 2025, giving us full access to its innovative, electrifying, future-forward energy.
Uranus takes 84 years to cycle through the entire zodiac, hanging out in each sign’s “airspace” for approximately seven years. Whichever sign Uranus is orbiting through gives the planet its focus. Here is where we see innovation, chaos and massive societal changes.
The Uranus in Taurus cycle began in 2018 and officially wraps on April 25, 2025. This year, we get a sneak peek of the 2026–2033 Uranus in Gemini transit, when the side-spinning planet slips into the air sign from July 7 to November 7!
NEPTUNE
Planet No. 7 in the planetary alignment
Neptune is brrrrrr! Icy Neptune is the last of the gas giants in our solar system. In astrology, Neptune rules all that lies below the surface—and the watery flow of creativity.
Neptune brings each sign periods of heightened imagination, creativity and intuition. Its lengthy 14-year stays in each sign allow you to plan for spiritual and creative growth and to draw from the deep well of your psyche. The current Neptune transit, Neptune in Pisces, began in 2011 and wraps up in 2026!
Neptune crawled out of a lengthy retrograde at the end of 2024 and is direct in Pisces until its next retrograde, from July 4 to October 22, 2025. But here’s where things get interesting! Neptune will split its time between two signs—Aries and Pisces this year! For the first time since 1862 to 1875, the celestial soothsayer swings into the Ram’s realm. While this only lasts from March 30 to October 22, 2025, a longer, 13-year cycle of Neptune in Aries picks up again in January 2026 until March 2039!
