Imagine this! Pisces season 2023 begins February 18, when the winter Sun shines into the esoteric waters of this ethereal sign.
This four-week solar cycle will last until March 20. During this time, we’ll all be under the spell of this zodiac sign. In other words, we’re all Pisces now.
But first: What does it mean when it’s Pisces season?
The Sun floats into Pisces’s idyllic orbit for four weeks each year, serving enchantment and empathy. Imagination reigns supreme for four weeks—a soulful shift after scientific Aquarius season. Ditch the algorithms and social theory and reach for your tarot cards and a book on attachment styles.
With everyone’s sixth sense dialed up during this woo time of year, your intuition is as reliable a GPS as your Maps app, so tune in! Nurture your spiritual side and explore an artistic avenue such as music, painting or dance. This unbound creative surge could yield divine downloads from your muse.
Compassion is on trend during this boundary-dissolving solar cycle, but warning—so is codependence and sacrifice. While it’s great to focus on people’s potential, you could fall in love with a fantasy version of them. Keep one foot on terra firma while the other wades ever deeper into the sensual seas.
Here are 7 ways to get a direct (fishing) line to the divine during Pisces season 2023
1. Question your assumptions—did they really mean that?
Do you believe in magic? The dreamy vibes of Pisces season can make the most hardened cynic want to immediately enroll in a semester at Hogwarts Academy. Ruled by hazy Neptune, Pisces is a spell caster. (Cue Pisces Rihanna reminding us that we’re beautiful “like diamonds in the sky.”) Take nothing at face value during this four-week cycle! Although the reality shifts can be mind-bending, don’t just rely on your five senses. Give credence to your intuition, spiritual experiences, and serendipities. Some will be so striking they seem to arrive as a message from another dimension.
Since you probably can’t prove these things on paper, don’t waste time arguing with the self-proclaimed expert in your family. But if something resonates for you intuitively, it’s worth exploring. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon to read with a book that the author channeled from a thousand-year-old deity or to consult your oracle deck before making a major life move. Go ahead and enjoy the messages of Abraham that flow through Esther Hicks or let that Wheel of Fortune tarot card confirm your cross-country move.
That said, it’s a good idea to fact-check any assumptions, especially if money or wellness prescriptions are involved! It’s one thing to be skeptical (someone who considers all possibilities with one eyebrow raised) and quite another to be gullible—the twin pitfall of Pisces season.
2. Unblock your psychic channels
Pisces season invites you to use a different sort of vision than pure sight. The third eye chakra, located at the forehead between the eyebrows, is often called the gateway to your intuition or sixth sense. Sparking this can help to clarify your purpose and enhance your creativity. In other words, look through your third eye, not your “nerd eye.”
But like all chakras, the third eye portal can become blocked. This may cause you to second-guess yourself and make ego-based decisions that can lead to unfulfilling results. You can help reopen your third eye by working with an energy healer or through your own meditation practice. Yoga poses such as forward folds, help to release tension in the shoulders and flush the pineal gland—restoring the flow of energy into the third eye.
3. Never forget that water is life
Neptune, the mythical god of the seas, is Pisces’ galactic guardian. During Pisces season, the health of our oceans and water supplies becomes an ever-more crucial focus. It can be hard to digest some of the scary facts about melting polar ice caps and rising sea levels. If you’ve been avoiding these “inconvenient truths,” NASA’s climate website has extensive teaching tools that are presented more factually than emotionally.
While no one can singlehandedly save the planet, you can add to the collective efforts to protect our aquatic resources. As much as possible, eliminate the use of plastics, which often wind up dumped in the ocean (yes, even if you tossed that bottle into your recycling bin) to be ingested by fish, in turn, polluting the food chain. Carry a refillable bottle for your H2O. You can turn this into a decadent ritual by investing in a beautiful glass bottle, maybe one that has a crystal integrated into its design.
Sidenote: As we mentioned, Neptune is deep into its 15-year transit through its home sign of Pisces, an epic cycle that spans from February 3, 2011 until January 27, 2026. We explore this transit in detail in our 2023 Horoscope guide book.
4. Channel your inner Rihanna, Nina Simone, Michaelangelo…
Give the muse a seat at your table. While you’re at it, invite this spirit into the recording studio and your dreams! Pisces season is like an extended vision quest. The veil is thin during these four weeks, making it easier to pick up “messages” from the ether. Sit down with a notebook and see what flows out of your subconscious. Known for its poetic prowess, this solar cycle could turn you into a regular Ntozake Shange…or Anais Nin who was born under this star sign. Keep a journal on the nightstand, as Pisces season can enrich your sleep and deliver divinely inspired messages through your dreams.
Do you keep hitting the same creative block? Check out Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, a legendary guidebook for embracing your creative self that we often recommend. One of the most game-changing exercises is the practice of writing “Morning Pages.” This entails taking pen to paper first thing in the morning to free-write three pages of unfiltered thoughts. You’ll be amazed at how therapeutic this practice can be—and how many hidden gems get unmoored from the recesses of your mind in the process.
Expect this to be a therapeutic process, too! Pisces is symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions, making Pisces season a time to rise into higher planes AND go rolling in the deep. Don’t judge your work or try to achieve a masterpiece. Just make art for art’s sake…or healing’s sake!
5. Do a “boundaries inventory”
Pisces’s ruler, Neptune, helps us “go with the flow,” but that can be a slippery slope in some cases. During Pisces season, you may be prone to excess, making it all the more important to bring awareness to how much you’re drinking and eating or how often you sacrifice sleep because you’re so consumed with a project—or you don’t want to leave the party. Hey, we all love to escape reality from time to time, but bear in mind that addiction falls under the domain of Pisces. “Just this once,” can be famous last words that undo months of hard work or, in extreme cases, create the kinds of problems no one wants to have.
Steer clear of triggering people and situations. In The Empath’s Survival Guide, author Judith Orloff outlines the many ways highly sensitive people can become self-destructive in order to numb the intensity of the signals they pick up. Reach for artist’s tools when the urge to self-soothe strikes. Adult coloring books have risen to popularity as a cathartic form of self-expression—or maybe just a way to keep our hands busy. We’re fans of the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil’s simulated artist-style pens and brushes and have incorporated them into our note-taking!
6. Find forgiveness, or at least release the grudge
As the twelfth sign of the zodiac, Pisces governs the things we need to release—if only to lighten our own psychic loads. Have you been hauling around a grudge or tale of woe like an albatross? The Pisces Sun illuminates places where you’ve fallen into a victim mentality and need to change your tune. That’s not to invalidate legitimate trauma. The question is, can you reframe these experiences as soul lessons and a source of inner strength? Turn to healing circles, therapists, shamans and coaches—the experts who can help you view things through a more empowering lens. Your “wounds” may evolve into healing gifts, allowing you to one day support someone going through a similar struggle.
Is it time to extend the olive branch? Forgiveness is a gift that you can give yourself during Pisces season, along with heavy doses of compassion. That doesn’t mean you have to invite every offending party back into your life or soften boundaries that need to be kept firmly in place. But it does mean accepting people (and situations) for all that they are and all that they are not—and finding some divine serenity therein.
7. Let yourself daydream, too! (What IS that fantasy telling you…?)
Despite all the intensity of Pisces season, it’s also one of the most romantic and glamorous times of the year. Get ready for an early round of spring fever! Rose-colored glasses and hearts worn on sleeves are always in fashion during Pisces season.
Caveat: Piscean energy can be so lost at sea that you can sometimes forget that you are bound by the principles of the Earth plane. Periodic reality checks would be a wise idea—and at least three advisors to consult before unleashing any wilder schemes. But don’t be so hard-nosed that you fail to enjoy the imaginative vibes that Pisces season brings!
Every 30 days or so, the Sun visits a new zodiac sign. During this “season” everyone feels the energy of this prevailing astrological sign, no matter what your Sun sign horoscope may be. Here is everything you need to know about Pisces season.
This divinely inspired cycle helps us cultivate compassion and create space to heal hurt hearts or deep traumas.
When is Pisces season?
Pisces season begins February 18, 2023 and ends March 20. (Note that the exact date may shift by 24 hours, depending on the year.) Pisces season arrives right after Aquarius season and before Aries season.
And for the astro-geeks…here are key Pisces characteristics:
Pisces is a water sign (splish splash!)
Feel the feels! Intuitive, emotional and ultra-sensitive, water signs can be as mysterious as the ocean itself. Like water, they can be refreshing, or they can drown you in their depths. These signs often have intense dreams and borderline-psychic intuition. Security is important to them—after all, water needs a container, or it dries up and disappears.
Pisces is a “mutable” sign (meaning they adapt to change more easily than most)
Mutable signs are the adapters of the zodiac, a little bit older and wiser while also refreshingly open to the spirit of change.
The four mutable signs—Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces—are the ones that end every season. After learning the hard lessons taught by spring, summer, fall and winter, they prepare us for a transition. More flexible and comfortable with change than other signs, they can “chameleon” themselves to fit into a variety of situations.
Neptune is the ruling planet of Pisces—here’s what that means:
Every zodiac sign has a galactic guardian that guides and protects it. Neptune has been “assigned” as the ruling planet of Pisces since its discovery in 1846. Prior to that Jupiter was the ruler of Pisces, along with Sagittarius.
This faraway planet governs invisible aspects of life—particularly the subconscious mind: Dreams, fantasies and even delusions fall under Neptune’s domain. As the “boundary dissolver” of the astrological system, Neptune’s position in the skies shows where we need to suspend logic and open ourselves up to unseen possibilities. It also reveals the places where we need to take a deeper look at what’s happening below the surface.
Neptune is transiting through the Pisces part of the sky from 2011 to 2026. Esoteric subjects from tarot to astrology have exploded in popularity ever since. (Remember that 2012 Mayan calendar?) We’re also dealing with a climate crisis that is affecting the Pisces-ruled seas. As oceans warm, massive floods to droughts are intensifying—yet humanity continues to delude ourselves about the impact of our modern lifestyles on the Earth’s biorhythms.
What will Pisces season do for my love life?
Bring on the poetry, playlists and peak romantic experiences. Love knows no bounds as the Sun drifts into Pisces’ esoteric waters. Sweet escapes from reality are what make romance so rich. Just try not to lose sight of daily duties like, oh, showing up at work and returning important messages.
While we’ll all rock the rose-colored glasses for the coming four weeks, don’t let them screen out red flags. Seeing the best in people is a noble quality—as long as you aren’t projecting imaginary traits onto people that they haven’t earned. Fall in love with who they are, not just their potential.
